When the jailer woke up Tyrone Simmons and told him he could leave his cell for home, Simmons responded, “Who, me? Are you sure?” The jailer should have double-checked: it was actually another inmate named Simmons who was free to go — not Tyrone, who was being held on theft and drug charges. Jailers later realized their mistake and let the right Simmons go. Tyrone, still at large, has been charged with escape and another count of theft for accepting the other Simmons’ personal property upon his release.
