Be PreparedRita Rupp of Tulsa, Okla., was scared about driving cross-country, but she and her husband Floyd needed to get to New York for a wedding. Just to be safe, she pre-wrote a note that she could leave for someone to find in case of trouble. “Help Kidnapped Call Highway Patrol,” the note read. “My Ford Van Cream & Blue Oklahoma.” It also listed her name and telephone number. All went well until Rita and Floyd got to Auburn, Mass., where Mrs. Rupp accidentally dropped the note during a bathroom break. Police issued an all points bulletin, but didn’t spot the van. The case received news media attention for 24 hours until Floyd called his office to check for messages. “He said, I’m sitting here enjoying the view of the ocean’,” Rupp’s office manager told reporters after the call. “You have no idea what’s going on, do you?” the manager replied. (AP) ...Sounds like that might be a common state of affairs for the Rupps.
