You don't really want Time Warner and Microsoft to own everything, do you?
So, if Microsoft offered to buy you out, would you sell?
For how much? :-)
Say they offered you a cool million to purchase and take over "This is True" (and made you sign an agreement not to start another similar publication). Would you walk from the deal?
Or let's make it 10 million (we are talking about MS, who I don't think would even notice any amount under 9 digits... :-). Now I think your publication is quite good--it's obviously something you really love (and it shows in the high quality you generate year after year!!!). But hey, that's a lot of crackers they're offering you. 10 million would certainly be enough to retire on. Maybe even enough to salve your heartbreak watching them take it over and run it into the ground? :-)
Anyway, just curious on your feelings to this particular hypothetical situation...
---
It's unlikely Microsoft -- or any large corporation -- would buy a property that's so personality-driven. Would I refuse to sell at any price? Of course not, but it'd take more than a million. I'm simply having too much fun to give it up anytime soon.
The point of this entry, of course, is to remind people that there are alternatives to mega-corporate voices -- but only if they're supported. If the independents can't make it, then by default the only thing left will be corporate voices. -rc
