bullet  Blasphemy II -- The Birth of GOOHF

You know what I like about my job? It's fun. Last week, I reported on the rantings of "Santa". Sometimes, of course, it's tedious to get rants piled on me, but more often than not it's really very fun to get even that kind of mail, especially when I egg them on a bit like I did with her. After looking through her comments, Premium subscriber Ed in Connecticut dropped me a note suggesting I "institute the 'Get A Life' Award for weenies like Santa. This could be bigger than the Darwin Awards, I tell you."

And he's right: it could be! But somehow that triggered something else in my rather warped brain: if Santa can condemn me to hell at the snap of her mind, why shouldn't I have the power to counter her? She shouldn't have a Monopoly on this stuff! So I had 2,000 "Get Out Of Hell Free" cards printed; I designed them myself. I'm letting readers get some too, charging just enough to pay for the printing, packing and postage. The orders are already streaming in -- including an order for 500 for Rev. Rus (True's consulting pastor). That, dear readers, is downright fun! :-)

Of course, you all wanted your own say about "Santa". Troy in Oregon wrote, "I must confess that when I read your article [about] Feng Shui I thought it was funny, but reading letters from those offended by your comments was downright hilarious. I had to wonder, have any of those upset by your comments... ever looked out their windows when it was raining and thought, 'What a dreary day'? Why wouldn't that be considered criticism of God's way of running things? I am only 20 years old but I have studied a little and so I freely admit that I am guilty of Blasphemy and going against commandments. First off, I would like to say I support Women's rights and feel that they should be counted as equals. I also think they are fully capable of teaching and understanding doctrine. BAM!! Right there I am on my way to Hell -- that line of thinking is in direct conflict with 1 Corinthians 14:34."

No way, Troy: just flash The Card -- don't leave these Earthly Bonds without it. Last, Mark in Arkansas summed it up this way: "It is an ethical responsibility of the informed to muddy the tranquil waters of ignorance with the stick of knowledge." And, I hope, when they really beg for it, to whack them a good one with said stick.

"Bigger than the Darwin Awards," eh? Ed was right: The GOOHF card has its own web site, and we have sold well over one million cards.
