Come On Down for a Visit
After posting a few details about where I moved last week, several readers wrote with concerns similar to Sheryl, who didn't note where she is located: "I can certainly see why you'd be thrilled to be moving to such a lovely place, and obviously understand why you want to share it with the world. But I hope you didn't do yourselves a disservice! What if your glowing picture brings thousands of your readers to the area?" Subscribe for Free Well, if they did, that would possibly double the population of the county (currently fewer than 4,000!) But my real answer is, there are pros and cons to most places. One of the biggest cons to this area is employment -- there isn't much. When a Home Depot opened in the next town north they advertised 100 job openings. I'm told 1,400 people applied. It's not an issue for me, since I brought my job with me (my wife is a consultant, and does most of her work online or by phone). Boulder housing prices are pretty high, even where I was (which was not in the city limits). Here, I'm getting 80 times (!) the lot size, much better views, a newer (but slightly smaller) house, and many more nice advantages, for almost exactly the same monthly payment I had in Boulder. So who could resist?! One of my mini-sites has a couple of photos taken from my new house. Wouldn't you do it if you could? If it looks great to you, the locals would probably like me to say, "Please do come visit! Bring money! And then leave."... :-) Blog Updates
