This Just In carries its first paid ad -- for long distance phone service.

It advertised an "incredibly low" rate of 13.9 cents/minute -- pretty good in those days, highway robbery today, not even counting inflation.

No web site was mentioned in the ad, only a phone number!

We still carry ads in the newsletter -- it's how we're able to send the free edition to more than 100,000 people each week. And now, it's hard to find an advertisement that doesn't refer to some sort of online information source or "call to action". Things changed a lot very fast.... (Info on advertising in True)
