bullet  One Change Enables Another

Hiring a couple of new writers to help with True after running for more than 16 years let me address the one thing that Premium subscribers said would make the publication better.

Here's how I announced it in the 2 January 2010 issue:

Notice anything different about this issue? You might not: it hasn't been all that unusual for me to add extra stories to the Premium edition, but now that I have extra help with the writing, I see no reason not to expand it a little bit. My new goal is 10 stories each week, rather than the "7-9" that normally fit into my newspaper space allotment. Newspaper syndication has never been a large part of True's business model, and with more and more papers either dying or cutting back on features, it's a smaller part of my business than ever. So with the extra help available, why not give you more? So here we are, with 10 stories ...not counting this month's Tagline Challenge!

The free edition, by the way, will stay at four stories, which makes the difference in the two editions even larger, providing a bigger bang for the $24 annual investment. I had to look it up to remember the date: the price has been at $24 since late 2004, and I feel fine about leaving it at that price.

The Premium subscription fees are what run this entire operation: ads in the free edition don't even bring in enough to pay for mailing costs; the ads on the web site don't even pay for the web hosting costs. Premium is it! Want to help True continue? Upgrade here.

I found True only recently, and took Premium even more recently (duh). I haven't been receiving your newsletters long enough to really appreciate those yet, but I've been spending dozens of hours reading your 'blogs, beginning with all the ZT articles, and most of the link-outs. Now I am reading the 'blog archive in reverse order. I know my Premium subscription supports the Web hosting and everything else. I am glad to do so. Thank you very much for making me smarter, and possible wiser. We'll see!

Yeah, I noticed you crawling the blog, since you're making comments here and there. Thanks for your support, and for appreciating my mission here! -rc
