Saving Readers from Hell, One Card at a Time
Pascal in France writes, "How can you stand all the complaints and rants you get? Doesn't anyone send good mail anymore? I absolutely *love* TRUE and the way it makes me think about issues. But the whiny people that write you, is that all you get?" No indeed! I just think readers would get bored if all I ran were the kudos, which indeed come in with much more frequency than the complaints. Indeed, just the notes included with the orders this week for our "Get Out of Hell Free" cards have been great. David in Washington says "I'll forward one to Bill Gates. He probably feels he needs one about now." (I sent an extra one, so it could be "on me". :-) Weekly Weird News Cathy in Massachusetts: "I know someone who says I am going to hell because I'm gay. I can't wait to show them this!" They need it more than you do, Cathy! Marc in Texas: "Please send me 20; enclosed is $2.00. This is much cheaper than the cost of salvation by some of the TV evangelists. I need to take advantage of this offer right away." (Heck: I'll send you 300 for just 29.95! That's right, you and all your friends can be saved for just twuhnny-niun ninuh-fivuh!) Carol Anne in Iowa: "I'll join you in HELL, friend. Oh, but wait: we're card-carrying members, we get out for FREE (send me those cards ASAP, please!) And to show my support and appreciation for intellectual freedom and expression, I now HAVE to be a Premium subscriber. Sign me up." Sara in South Carolina: "I can't tell you how many times I've been told I'm going to hell because I don't attend Minister Fill-in-the-Blank's church service twice a week. Finally, a way to fight back!" And indeed, I got a dollar from a pastor of a church in New York. But gee, Rev. Jim: you only got enough for your family and staff? Ten cards will hardly protect your entire congregation -- everyone needs their own! At least send another buck to cover your 10 most active elders! I so enjoy hearing reader reaction to the cards that the GOOHF site now has several dozen amusing stories of people giving out cards. Blog Updates
