bullet  Wardrobe Malfunction? Hah!

Never Has One Boob Created Such a Phenomenon

You either saw it or you heard about it: the Janet Jackson "flash". I happened to be walking by the TV (my wife was watching the Super Bowl) at the exact moment it happened. I stopped in my tracks, backed up, and said to her, "Did I just see what I thought I saw?" My wife, a bit stunned, said "I think so...."

We have a Tivo-like recorder, so I picked up the remote and went back a half-minute. Sure enough. I went over to my desk, waited five minutes, and then started searching for news stories. It didn't take long; since it was a Sunday, and I was in the middle of writing this week's issue, I made sure the story was included.

You probably expect me to have a photo to go with the story, right? Nah -- I like to exceed expectations: I've got a Flash (heh heh) movie sequence of it -- zoomed in from HDTV screen captures. "Wardrobe malfunction"? Yeah, right. Take a look and see what you think. Yes (warning!), the content of the page is "adult" in nature, but hey: it's nothing you can't see on TV! And, well, I ended up doing a mini-rant about the whole thing, and there are links to all sorts of news item about the resulting ...um... fallout (including an item on the woman who is -- sigh -- suing over it. I think her name is Stella.)

I announced the page to the Premium crowd on Monday, and it got such huge traffic that I was afraid the True site would bog down when I announced it in the free distribution, so by Wednesday morning I got it moved to its own domain on my backup server. There, even though things settled down a bit by then, it has received more than 5,700 page views -- in just 60 hours, on a brand-spanking-new site! By only announcing it to the relatively small Premium list! Astounding. Anyway, the URL is http://www.JanetJacksonFlash.com, which also includes my story.

Be sure to see the link at the bottom for the wonderful parodies of the "malfunction".

Nor was Lucy Lawless' display during the national anthem at the '97 Anaheim/Detroit hockey game an accident. It took her TWICE to reach her arm high enough in dramatic pose to pop 'free' during the "land of the free" verse.

Actually, the video shows she only put her arm up once. She said she was "mortified" by the "Oh say can you see" moment. -rc
