bullet  Who to Choose?

The recent Honorary Unsubscribe for Cleveland Amory brought a lot of mail, such as this from Rick in California:

"How did I miss that? I saw him on TV just a few weeks ago. Randy, another reason to subscribe is the honorary unsubscribe."

Agrees Jocelyn in Pennsylvania: "Cleveland Amory was a hero of mine, whose passing, sadly, got no mention in my daily paper. It seems unjust that the death of some two-bit TV or movie star should merit banner headlines and gallons of ink, while the people who make a difference in our lives, the inventors, authors, activists and others that you single out, are ignored. I'm glad someone is speaking up." That's what the H.U. is all about. Amory is best known for his wonderful book, The Cat and the Curmudgeon.

Sometimes the problem is choosing just one person to honor in a particular week. I got a lot of mail about one I didn't choose last week: Jon Postel, whom The Economist proclaimed "God" of the Internet. He wrote many of the protocols for such things as how e-mail is exchanged among servers. I would have loved to choose him, but good people are just dying too fast for me to keep up....
