Bountiful Bunco

John Santner, 33, pleaded guilty to fraud and drug charges, ending his career as “the city’s most prolific bunco artist ever,” said a spokesman for the San Francisco, Calif., police. Santner managed to steal more than $4 million over two years, investigators say, by writing bad checks, or using forged driver’s licenses to cash stolen checks. Police recovered $1.5 million worth of stolen checks that had not yet been cashed, as well as 780 $100 bills. Santner “ran this like any legitimate business,” said Assistant District Attorney Bob Ring. “It’s not your typical poo-butt who walks into a bank with a bogus check.” (San Francisco Chronicle) ...If the D.A. wants cops to identify with him, he really needs to work on his “street talk.”
