To attract and keep students, colleges are starting to add all the comforts of home — and more — to their dorms. “For a lot of students, the academic program is not their top priority,” admits the housing director at San Antonio's University of Texas. Purdue has hired a full-time marketing representative to show students their call waiting and in-room movies so they know “how good they really do have it,” said the Indiana university’s residence hall director. “Students come to school expecting their own room, TV and an Internet hookup,” agrees the residential director of Illinois State University.
