David Flannery Jr., 22, and a friend were walking along railroad tracks near Berkeley Springs, W.Va., when a train approached. The two men “competed” to see which would stand the longest on the tracks in front of the oncoming train. The unidentified friend jumped “just in time,” a sheriff deputy said, but Flannery was hit and thrown 70 feet by the impact. He is hospitalized in serious condition.
