Deathwish

Police were confronting a kidnap suspect when he dropped into a crouch and pointed something at them. Rocklin, Calif., officers thought it was a gun and fired. After being shot, Kenneth Lawrence Robertson, 36, told officers, “Thank you, thank you. I’m a bad person. Thanks for shooting me.” But it was not a gun he had pointed, it was a cell phone. On the way to the hospital, Robertson asked paramedics to convey his apology to the officers for his attempting “suicide by cop” — faking the officers into thinking he had a gun so they would shoot him.
