Family Values

When an 18-year-old girl in Bay City, Mich., tried to kill herself, her family was right there. With a video camera. The girl’s 14-year-old sister recorded the girl swallowing pills; mom was nearby watching it all. Neither apparently tried to intervene, but another family member arrived a half-hour later and called 911 in time for the girl to be saved. Meanwhile, Colleen Vaught, 25, pleaded guilty in New Hampshire federal court to assisting in an armed bank robbery in exchange for not being charged with child endangerment. Vaught drove a getaway car for her bank-robbing husband at four stickups while their infant daughter sat in the seat beside her. “I assume they brought the baby because... they had no one else to leave her with,” said Assistant U.S. Attorney Arnold Huftalen. Prosecutors are recommending a 10 year sentence; she could receive as much as 100 years. (UPI, AP) ...Plus a mandatory three-year extension if the baby wasn’t in an approved child seat.
