Fashion Statement

Priests in the Greek Orthodox Church say it is time to modernize their look. Their traditional long black robes, hats, and flowing beards are getting in the way, they say. Of reaching parishioners? No: of attracting women. “If the robes create an obstacle for finding a wife, and you know they do, then the church’s leadership must do something to modernize our appearance,” demands Fr. Efstathios Kollas, who heads the priests’ union. Only 3,000 of Greece’s 11,000 priests are married, he says, adding many men are refusing to become priests because they’re afraid they will not be able to attract wives. (AP) ...Just a few alterations and they can be as sexy and attractive as Catholic priests.
