British researchers say dieting makes people forgetful and “vague”, but because of the distraction of the diet, not the reduction in calories. “Constantly thinking about food and worrying about diet means that dieters don’t have enough mental processing capacity to deal with tasks properly,” said Mike Green of the Institute of Food Research in London, England. The deficit is about the same as a non-dieting person who consumes two alcoholic drinks. Meanwhile, a researcher from the University of Wisconsin Medical School in Madison says that a diet rich in fat dramatically increases the risk of blindness.
