Faced with increasing drug errors made by doctors which kill as many as 100,000 Americans per year, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has taken action. In meetings with doctors, the FDA found that many don’t even bother to read the pages of fine print about drugs to see if they might kill their patients. But “physicians told us is if they were presented with information in a clear and useful way, they would read the label,” the FDA says, so it has ordered that the prescription information produced by drug companies be rewritten so that doctors can find warnings on a drug’s hazards within 30 seconds.
