This is True

First Wives Club

Police in Harvey, Ill., have arrested a woman and an auto mechanic on adultery charges after the woman’s husband discovered them in bed together. Officers made the arrest to appease the cuckold, who otherwise “could have went off and done something crazy,” Harvey Police Chief Phillip Hardiman said. The state is unlikely to win a conviction, observers say. Meanwhile, Dorothy Hutelmyer, 40, of Graham, N.C., has been awarded $1 million in damages from her husband’s former secretary. Mrs. Hutelmyer said an affair between her husband and the woman destroyed the love and affection in her marriage, leading to divorce. Mr. Hutelmyer and the secretary are now married. North Carolina is one of the few states which still have “alienation of affection” laws on the books. Defense attorney Wayne Abernathy is appealing the award as excessive. “I think most lawyers think the law is extremely outdated,” he said. (UPI, AP) ...Especially now that their ex-wives have heard about the verdict.
