South Korea’s Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry has a new tool to help determine the quality of imported seafood: metal detectors. Recent imports from China have been packed with lead pellets, making them heavier and, thus, more expensive. In the first week of metal detector use on Chinese imports to Pusan and Inchon, authorities found 13,225 pounds of blowfish contained 493 pounds of lead, and 18,450 pounds of blue crab held 189 pounds of lead.
