A Beijing man sentenced to death for murder pled “just wait until after June 14" before executing him because he wanted to see his favorite soccer team, AC Milan, play one last game. The team did win their June 14 match against the Beijing Guoan, but Chinese authorities would not say if they granted the condemned man’s wish. Meanwhile, a separate story notes that on July 23, a 29-year-old Shanghai man watched Shandong Taishan, his favorite team, lose 2-1 to team Guoan, but couldn’t quite accept the loss. "Jiang, his face shrouded in unhappiness, slowly walked back to his bedroom, locked the door, opened the window and jumped from the fourth floor" to his death, a Shanghai paper reported. (Reuters, 2) ..."Razors pain you; Rivers are damp; Acids stain you; And drugs cause cramp. Guns aren’t lawful; Nooses give; Gas smells awful; You might as well live." —Dorothy Parker, American author (1893-1967)
