Carl Morris thought he might be able to save his failing marriage if he had more money, so in December, 1994, he robbed an armored van of 286,000 pounds (US$430,000). His wife, Mandy, spent the money on vacation homes, parties, cars, ...and a divorce, a London court was told. Then, once the money was gone and the divorce final, she turned him in to police. “It is fair to say that his wife only finally left him after she had managed to spend a good deal of the proceeds,” Morris’ attorney said. Morris has just been sentenced to 11 years in prison for the heist; there was no word whether Mandy has been charged with any crime.
