As the official mascot of Rhode Island, Mr. Potato Head statues have been placed in many tourist locations. But the statue that has graced East Providence City Hall for four months has brought flack. “The only thing missing is a watermelon,” complains Onna Moniz-John, the city’s affirmative action officer, declaring the statue racist. “He’s a potato.
