Gender Parity

Turkey’s Religious Affairs Foundation, which is affiliated with the government’s Religious Affairs Directorate, has issued a new handbook to help Turkish people be more religious. The Muslim’s Handbook advises women that breast enlargement, listening to music, and wearing wigs are sins. Of course, it has directives for men, too: men should take a second wife if their current wife is ill and he cannot afford to hire a maid. In addition, men should beat women “gently” and “as a warning,” but avoid hitting them in the face. (RC/PA) ...Thus giving us all a better understanding of Third World development issues.
