Francis Cardenas was arrested in the murder of his cousin 15 years ago, but he jumped bail and fled to the Philippines. The Glendale, Calif., police never forget a murder. “It appeared he’d left for good,” said Detective Sgt. Joe Perkins, who took over the case three years ago when the original detectives retired, but he heard that Cardenas’ daughter was getting married somewhere on the west coast. Inspired, Detective Art Frank started calling department stores and asking for the bridal registry, and found her registered at Nordstrom’s for a Seattle wedding. Glendale detectives went to Seattle and crashed the rehearsal: sure enough, the suspect was there. “The FBI agents went in and asked him to step outside,” Frank said.
