This is True

I’ll See You in Court

In 1993, a blind man learning how to work with a guide dog in a mall in Tampa, Fla., encountered the Rev. William E. Christian and his wife, Carolyn. The dog tried to steer him around the couple, but, apparently confused, the man stepped on Carolyn’s foot, breaking her toe. Witnesses said Mrs. Christian made no attempt to move out of the way, but that didn’t stop her from suing the guide dog school for $80,000 for medical bills, pain, suffering, humiliation and disability. Rev. Christian also sued for $80,000 for loss of his wife’s “care, comfort and consortium.” But when news of the lawsuit hit local newspapers and radio talk shows, mounting public outrage prompted the lawyer who filed the suit to withdraw it, and he says his firm will donate $1,000 to the school. (AP) ...There’s nothing like the light of day to make the roaches run and hide.
