I See Great Transfer of Wealth

The New York, N.Y., Human Resources Administration has abruptly terminated a program to provide welfare recipients training as psychics to get them off the dole. The Psychic Network, which charges telephone callers $4.99 per minute to speak with psychics, pays “workfare” recipients $10 an hour after taking training offered through the city agency. The only qualifications necessary: a high school diploma and the ability to read, write and speak English. At least 15 welfare clients passed a class in tarot card reading and had been hired by the company. The program was canceled, however, hours after a New York Times article alerted the public to the training sessions. (AP) ...It wasn’t completely bogus: even the bureaucrats could sense the public ridicule in advance.
