Police in Hull, England, had an idea for a sting to capture fugitives, and spent weeks setting it up. It involved sending letters to the felons to notify them they had won expensive televisions. The cops were understandably distressed, then, to see the idea used in “The Bill”, a TV police drama, just before they were ready to execute their sting. “We saw The Bill’ and thought our most wanted might see it and smell a rat. But we decided to give it a try anyway,” Detective Chief Inspector Doug McCully said. “Surprisingly, none of them did.” They captured 22 criminals on their “most wanted” list. (UPI) ...Of course the felons hadn’t seen it — they didn’t have their new TVs yet.
