Officials from the U.S. government’s anti-drug task force met with diplomats from Peru to try to convince them to pressure Peruvian farmers to not grow coca plants, the source for cocaine, and instead grow cacao trees, whose beans are the source for chocolate. The idea came from American chocolate manufacturers who are concerned over the growing demand for chocolate, which existing cacao plantations around the world may not be able to fill.
