The U.S. Department of Defense has announced a new citation for military and civilian government personnel who “served both faithfully and honorably during the Cold War era,” which is defined as being between Sept. 2, 1945, and Dec. 26, 199l. Such employees will be able to apply for the Cold War Recognition Certificate over the Internet, by fax or through the mail, and must merely provide their name, social security number and date of service to receive it.
