My Word is My Bond

“It was all done on the recommendation of the [District Attorney],” insists Levelland (Tex.) Municipal Judge Ron Wood. He had set the bail for rape suspect E.C. Stewart Jr. at “a zillion dollars”. Stewart is accused of raping a woman twice, the second time while free on $10,000 bond after his arrest for the first attack. Wood said the zillion-dollar bail was to be sure Stewart stayed in jail and could not get to the woman again. “It was to simulate no bond,” he added. (Lubbock Avalanche-Journal) ...Wasn’t it “simulated justice” that led to his low bail the first time around?
