Magdy Doss, owner of a gas station in Brandenton, Fla., was confronted by a man with a hatchet. After handing over $300, the robber jumped into a red car and sped off. Doss called the sheriff, then set out after the robber, joined shortly by deputies, chasing the red car at speeds up to 110 mph. But the chase only lasted 20 miles before the red car, a rental, ran out of gas. Jeffrey Alan McLeod, 29, quickly surrendered. “When you set out to rob a gas station, you’re supposed to fill the tank before you hold up the clerk,” a sheriff’s spokesman noted. (AP) ...But red cars need super, and he couldn’t afford it.
