The city council of Gretna, La., has voted unanimously to make it legal to throw panties from Mardi Gras Carnival floats into the parade audience. Originally, panties were included in an ordinance that made it illegal to throw anything that represented “male or female genitalia, is lewd or lascivious and includes, but is not limited to, condoms and inflatable paraphernalia.” But when the spokesman of a local marching club complained that “panties have been a legitimate throw for Mardi Gras for years,” the council deleted panties from the no-throw list. “So we’re pro-panties — it’s on the record,” Gretna City Councilman Vincent Cox announced.
