The Canadian Security Intelligence Service is in hot water after a female agent left top-secret files in her car when she went to a Toronto hockey game. They were stolen by drug addicts, who dumped them into the trash, but she didn’t report the theft in time for the plans to be recovered — they’re now believed to be deep in a trash pile. Worse, the head of the CSIS’s oversight board heard about the debacle from the newspaper. And to add insult to injury, agency insiders grumble that female agents aren’t disciplined as severely as male agents for such errors. A retired agent told CBC television that “There’s no such question as giving someone a break just because he or she is a woman.” (Reuters) ...Which isn’t as ironic as you might think, considering the disguises available to agents.
