Alfred Sirven, who has eluded French authorities for three years following a government bribery scandal, has finally been arrested. Police in the Philippines caught up with him, but he was able to thwart some evidence gathering by destroying the memory chip in his cell phone, eliminating the phone’s record of recent calls. After he was arrested, his phone rang and officers allowed him to answer. “When he hung up, he opened the phone and put the SIM card between his teeth,” a police spokesman said. “He chewed it to destroy it. I think he even swallowed it.” (Reuters) ...That’s not what most people mean by “getting the last word in.”
