The Oakfield Football Club on the Isle of Wight, England, failed to get a grant from Britain’s National Lottery to build a new 75,000-pound sports hall. Thinking that perhaps another artistic endeavor might be looked on more favorably, the team changed its name to the Oakfield Operatic Society and is apparently asking for 75,000 pounds to build a new opera house. The team will continue to play soccer, but “we’ll give the singing a go. Who knows, we may find a budding Pavarotti among our ranks,” the team’s manager said.
