In “a small step for the people behind the project but a giant leap for modern marketing,” the Gazolin&S advertising agency in Sweden is taking bids from companies wanting to advertise on the side of a rocket loaded with scientific payloads being launched by the European Space Agency. The minimum bid: $1 million. For this, the advertiser will also “get exclusive footage of their own advertising in space,” Gazolin&S executive vice-president Robert Bryhn said. It’s a good thing: the ad will only be visible for about 10 seconds by viewers on the ground. The funds will help offset the cost of future research.
