Self-Sustaining Program

The Irish government has set aside 1,500 acres of forest areas around the country and will be planting a tree for every one of the country’s 1.2 million households as a “legacy for future generations,” says Prime Minister Bertie Ahern. The 5 million punt (US$5.5 million) program includes funding to mail 1.2 million certificates to tell each citizen where their specific tree is to be planted.
