Well, yeah, I do understand the logic that you shouldn't insult your paying customers. More importantly, it's something that should not be done lightly. But Don Rickles made a successful living at it, so it's not an Absolute Truth.
Most importantly, your readership does consist of mostly intelligent people who, when they read your side of it, will appreciate the humor of themselves. Or, if not, will go on to enjoy the humor of others. Only the easily offended will cancel their subscriptions and those will do it on any occasion of offense. Sadly, not all customers are meant to be customers and trying to change the store will not be productive. (Remember the joke about the guy trying to buy Polish sausage at a hardware store?)
I read your material for entertainment and, boy, some of your readers make good entertainment. So keep it up. And if I happen to be the butt of the entertainment, well, I may not like it but I did bring it on myself, right?

Wow, he must not have read the page very carefully when he was "reading it top to bottom" - one of the reader replies mentioned the errata page specifically.
Not that I got the impression he ever reads anything carefully.
