Stiff Sniff

An Italian physiologist is trying to create an artificial nose to sniff out death. “We are testing at least five artificial noses,” says Giovanni Cristalli. “The death odor is plausible and we are trying to find it. When a body dies, an emotional part lives on for a few seconds and at this moment, molecules with a particular odor are released,” he claims. Cristalli says the smell is too faint for people to detect, though animals may be able to. (Reuters) ...That’s not progress. We need something that’ll sniff food and drink to let us know if it’s safe. Anything else is too late.
