Storm Clouds

Like many towns, Harbor Springs, Mich., has a problem getting rid of all the sewage it generates. It has applied for a state permit to try something new: City Manager Fred Geuder wants to turn it into snow, adding to the 140 inches of white stuff the town already gets each winter from more natural sources. Using snow-making machines borrowed from a nearby ski resort, city officials plan to blow 80,000 gallons of wastewater into the air per day; the cold kills any bacteria, and the resulting snow settles back to the ground to await spring thawing, officials say. Geuder says the project is “really as exciting as this can get.” (UPI) ...If you think that’s exciting, wait until you see what happens when voters find their kids eating their snowmen.
