Targeted Mailing

The Quinn Emanuel law firm in Los Angeles, Calif., wanting new clients, set up a special mailing to 600 businesses up and down the state with the theme “Business is War” — driving the point home by enclosing a fake hand grenade. At least two of the businesses called for police bomb squads when they saw what came in the mail. The U.S. Postal Service notes that sending even fake bombs through the mail can be a crime, but declined to press charges since the firm was not acting maliciously. “The lesson here is, don’t believe everything the marketing consultants tell you,” one of the firm’s senior partners said. (AP) ...They should have demanded charges be brought — surely it’s worse to be known as a “non-malicious” law firm.
