Teaching by Example

The Los Angeles Unified School District faces $5 million in fines for illegally copying computer software. Acting on a tip, the Business Software Alliance audited the schools’ computers and found 1,400 pirated copies of applications such as Microsoft Word and Adobe Photoshop. School board member David Tukofsky whined that the software companies should leave the giant California district alone, ignore the copyright violations and instead give the district “an offer of training, reconciliation and understanding.” (New York Times) ...People who wonder “Why can’t Johnny read?” may now wonder instead “Why doesn’t David know it’s wrong to steal?”
