The engineers on two freight trains realized there was no way they could stop in time. They were going to collide head-on. The two Union Pacific trains near Palm Springs, Calif., were each traveling between 15 and 20 mph. When they realized collision was imminent, each jumped off the train, sustaining minor injuries.
