Texas High School Follies II

The Tulia (Texas) School Board voted to ask parents to sign consent forms for random drug tests for students who participate in extracurricular activities, such as the Honor Society. One student, Hollister Gardner, president of the Tulia High School Honor Society, is suing the board over the decision, saying the policy violates his rights. The board includes his father, Gary Gardner, who couldn’t be happier with the suit: not only was he the only board member to vote against the proposal, he’s providing tape recordings and documents from the board meetings for his son to use in court; Hollister is acting as his own attorney. “Boy, you think you raise them right, and as soon as they turn 18 they up and sue you,” joked the elder Gardner. (AP) ...Dad can’t even tell him to clean up his room anymore: if he opens his mouth, the kid runs off, yelling “no ex parte!”
