Textbook Case

Brazil’s Education Ministry has rejected 263 school textbooks with significant errors, such as showing men with ovaries or with testicles in their thighs, or teaching outdated ideas such as “Girls like to play and cook, and boys like to build things.” Meanwhile, German textbook publishers say they will have to spend $197 million to reissue 30,000 textbooks without now-illegal phonetic spellings of certain foreign words, such as “restaurant”, which was formerly spelled “restorant” in Germany. Other changes include reducing the number of rules regarding commas from 52 to nine. (AP) ...Those Jermans. Such a funny language! They call it “Doich”, you know.
