Raymond Rankine escaped from jail in Kununurra, Western Australia. Pursuing police spotted him near the Ord River, but he eluded capture by diving into the water. Rankine ignored warnings that a 12-foot crocodile was swimming toward him, so the officers had no choice but to open fire — at the croc. In the ensuing confusion, and with police keeping the crocodile at bay, Rankine completed his escape into the outback. “The last they saw of Rankine, he took off like a hare,” a police spokesman said. (Reuters) ...And they haven’t seen hide nor hare since.
