The Weather is Beautiful, Wish I Weren’t HereGuests at the Club Med Boucaniers resort in Martinique were rather inconvenienced by a strike by resort employees. The employees, who want an eight percent pay raise but were offered only three percent, formed a picket line across the exit and refused to let any of the tourists leave. After three days, police in riot gear were called out to free the mostly French “hostages”, who were taken out of the complex on buses. “There was a lot of aggression,” said a French guest. The buses “were hit by axes and clubs,” and the tourists “had to run the gauntlet of very high emotions.” An apologetic Club Med spokeswoman said the detained vacationers will be given recompense for their trouble, though “the exact terms of the compensation are [still] being worked out at the moment.” (Reuters) ...They’re hoping there’s enough cash in the Employee Raise Fund to cover it.
