The parents of Patrick Griffiths, a senior at Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach, Calif., are demanding that the school strike the 17-year-old boy’s recent suspension from his academic record so it won’t impede his college career. Griffiths was suspended for two days when he declined to be crowned homecoming king at the homecoming football game because he thinks it’s a “meaningless popularity contest.” He thus “willfully defied the valid authority of supervisors, teachers, administrators, school officials or other school personnel engaged in the performance of their duties,” said the suspension papers.
