By the end of June, 141 potential candidates had registered with the U.S. Federal Election Commission for the 1996 presidential election — nowhere near the record of 273 registrants in 1992, “but it’s early yet,” Reuters notes. Not all of the presidential hopefuls are people you may have heard of. For instance, immediately before Bill Clinton on the Commission’s alphabetical list is Billy Joe “Won’t Pull Your Leg” Clegg, supported by his Biloxi, Miss., “Just Kaus" presidential campaign committee.
